Nashville: Speire Healthcare Strategies, announces and welcomes Tom Betlach, as a partner in the firm. Tom joins after 27 years of distinguished state service in Arizona, working for five different governors in three different cabinet positions.
As director of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), Arizona’s Medicaid agency, he reported directly to the governor and was one of the longest-serving Medicaid directors in U.S. history. Under Betlach’s leadership, Arizona successfully implemented managed care strategies and transformed its delivery system, integrated behavioral health services, expanded the delivery of services to address social determinants of health and pursued value-based purchasing strategies.
Betlach serves as a critical Medicaid and health policy resource for state and national health policy makers. He is a nationally-recognized thought leader on Medicaid and health care policy, known for his expertise in serving complex populations, delivery system transformation, value-based purchasing, managed care and cost containment. As a national leader, Betlach served as both vice president and president of the National Association of Medicaid Directors. He currently serves on the board for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and is a member of the Congressional Budget Office Panel of Health Advisers.
“We are excited to work with Tom again,” said John McCarthy, Founding Partner at Speire. Darin Gordon, Founding Partner at Speire, said: “We know that his thought leadership will position us for continued growth.”
